Five emerging New South Wales club rugby players will join the Emirates Western Force for a two-week trial camp next week.
The five players, hand-picked by the Emirates Western Force coaching staff, will join the squad in Perth next Monday (8 December).
The five-man contingent consists of two forwards and three backs, with both forwards coming from the Sydney University club.
Back rowers David Fungalei and Trent Dyer will join West Harbour flyhalf David Paurini, Gordon centre Matt McDougall and Manly fullback Adam D’Arcy to train alongside the Emirates Western Force squad for the upcoming fortnight of the 2009 pre-season training programme.
Emirates Western Force Coach John Mitchell said the injection of the five players will assist the team as it enters its next phase of preparation for the 2009 season.
“Our entire focus during the first two months of pre-season has been on our physical preparation for the season and we have seen some fantastic individual accomplishments during the first eight weeks,” said Mitchell.
“As of Monday we will begin to make the transition into our rugby method and the five players we are bringing over from the East will provide us with some good talent to assist us in running our opposed work,” he said.
Mitchell said he and his coaching staff would be keeping a keen eye on the five imports during the fortnight.
“Obviously we do not have a full roster for the 2009 season as yet and we’ll certainly be using this opportunity to assess the five Sydney players as well as members of our own squad,” he said.
“The players have a great opportunity to experience pre-season training with a Super 14 team and having them on deck will be very beneficial for our squad with some of the work we have planned.”
Two of the five players shot to prominence during the 2008 Shute Shield competition, with Manly fullback D’Arcy finishing equal fourth in the voting for the Ken Catchpole Medal and West Harbour flyhalf Paurini winning a place in the Australian Sevens training squad.
